Before Getting a Second Hair Transplant, Wait for Atleast 6 Months

If a Second Transplant is warranted, patients are advised to wait at least 6 months after the first transplant before considering a second.

This is because over the course of the first year, the first transplanted hairs have grown in and the progressive increase in a hair’s diameter, texture and length can markedly change the look of the hair restoration -- this may influence the way a patient wants to groom his/her hair, and only after the hair has reached styling length can the patient and physician make the best aesthetic judgements regarding the placement of additional grafts.
For patients having an FUT (strip) procedure, another reason to delay a second hair transplant session for this time period is that scalp laxity will continue to improve making the donor hair easier to harvest.

Can A Hair Transplant Completely Replace My Lost Hair?

Q: Can a hair transplant make me look exactly the way I did before I lost my hair?

A: Actually, the answer is no. All Surgical Hair Transplantation procedures move hair – they cannot create new hair. Specifically, surgical hair transplantation takes existing hair from the donor area (located in the backside and on the sides of the scalp) and moves (transplants) them to the part of the scalp that has lost hair. It is usually the case that there is not enough hair in one’s donor area to replace all lost hair. That said, in persons with extensive hair loss, the restoration can often produce a dramatic improvement in one’s appearance.

Q: There will be Question Arise that After Transplanting Hair, they Can play a contact sport, like football, right after having a FUE procedure or not ?

A: So, to answer a simple question, one that patients ask all the time: at what point are transplanted grafts so securely anchored in the scalp that they cannot be dislodged?
As per Experience, it can be said that after 7 days the transplanted grafts become a permanent part of the body such that no amount of scrubbing or combing can dislodge them. So, while there are generally no limitations on Physical exercise after a FUE procedure, we recommend waiting at least 7 days before playing any contact sport, like football, as the grafts could be dislodged if vigorously rubbed.

Is Hair Transplant Necessary, if "YES" then How many Hair Transplant Needed?

The first session of a hair transplant should be designed as a stand-alone procedure with the following three goals:

1. Establishing a permanent frame to the face by creating, or reinforcing, the frontal hairline.

2. Providing coverage to the thinning, or bald, areas of the scalp with the hair transplant extending at least to the vertex transition point.

3. Adding sufficient density so that the result will look natural.

Achieving all of these goals will allow the first procedure to stand on its own.

Because of this, many people feel one hair transplant is sufficient.

FOR SECOND TIME HAIR TRANSPLANTATION , FUT/ FUE PREFERABLE ?

When a patient is having a Second or Third Hair Transplant procedure, it is very important to perform a really thorough examination of this patient.

In someone who has had a previous FUT procedure with a scar along the posterior sides of his scalp, it is important to examine the scar, and if it’s a fine scar that has healed very well then it is possible to perform another FUT procedure.

It’s also very dependent on the looseness of the Patient’s scalp. There needs to be enough looseness in order to be able to excise, or remove, the old scar, and in order to excise the scar with a width of a strip that would allow adequate hair to be able to be harvested, to be able to be transplanted.

However, if a Patient’s scalp is very tight, which would not allow a second strip or a third strip to be able to be harvested, then the most reasonable approach for another procedure would be an FUE.

In an FUE procedure, a strip is not removed or harvested from a patient’s scalp. The way it is performed is that the patient’s scalp is shaved and the follicular units are extracted.

So, once again, the factors involved in whether or not a second or third procedure can be done via FUT or FUE depend upon the donor hair supply that is present, the tension on the scalp and how the previous scars have healed, and all these can be very well assessed in aconsultation examination in the office prior to your procedure.

What are Follicular Units and How Do You Use Them in a Hair Transplant?

A follicular unit is a grouping of usually one to four hairs and this is how your hair naturally grows from your scalp.
We harvest and extract hairs in these natural groupings of follicular units, and these are transplanted to the frontal hairline and the frontal and top portion of your scalp. Generally, the one-hair follicular unit is placed at the frontal hairline for the most natural aesthetic appearance. And the two- to four-hair follicular units are placed posterior to the frontal hairlines.
By transplanting hair in their naturally occurring follicular units, this gives the most natural appearance in a hair transplant procedure.

Q: Is there ever an age where you are too old for a hair transplant?

A: One can be too young for surgical hair restoration, but not too old (as long as one is in good health medically).
Older people generally make excellent candidates for hair transplantation since their expectations are generally more realistic and the future extent of their hair loss more predictable than in those who are younger.
We have successfully treated a number of people in their 60s. In spite of the fact that their spouses and friends asked them, “What do you need a hair transplant for at your age,” the patients were uniformly happy that they did the surgery.

What is FUT Hair Transplant Surgery?

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is a procedure where hair is transplanted from the permanent zone, the area in the back and sides of the scalp where hair is more resistant to balding, to the bald or balding areas of the scalp.
This is accomplished using naturally-occurring groups of 1-4 hairs, called follicular units. After the patient’s scalp is anesthetized, the doctor removes a strip of tissue from the donor area, an area within the permanent zone, and, once extracted, the donor strip is cut into many individual follicular units using microscopic dissection  techniques.
As these follicular unit grafts are being prepared, the doctor makes tiny holes in the scalp, called recipient sites, where the grafts are placed.

The arrangement and positioning of these follicular unit grafts determines the aesthetic qualities of a hair transplant, and so this arrangement must be decided on a case-by-case basis, depending on the patients’ history of hair loss and likelihood of future hair loss. Since follicular unit transplants mimic the way hair grows in nature, the results, in expert hands, will look completely natural and be indistinguishable from one’s original hair.
